Nā Kikino ( in English and 日本語 )

ke aka                                 1. shadow;

                                            2. a fetus at a very early stage of development

                                                as the case with Hiʻiaka when she was born.

ka ipu                                  a gourd, especially when used as a container

                                             or musical instrument

ka laʻi                                      calm as when nature is quiet

Nā Hamani ( in English and 日本語 )

 ke ālai                                    to block someone, or something from view

ka inu lama                             to drink alcohol ( usually just "drink" in English )

ke oli                                       to chant a mele

ha hiʻi                                     to hold up at one's chest, as a baby

ka hoʻomaʻamaʻa                   to practice something ( to lean )

ka hoʻopuka                           1. to utter; 2. to produce;

                                                3. to publish ( all connected to "puka" (emarge) out )

ke kāhea                                to call a person to get that person's attention

ka paʻa                                   to hold on to something

ke puhi ke puhi paka            1. to burn up something in a fire ( e.g. rubbish );

                                                2. to smoke something, as tobacco

ke puhi ipupaka                    to smoke cigarettes ( usually just "smoke" in English )

Nā Hehele ( in English and 日本語 )

ka huakaʻi                               to go on a journey or quest, the jpurney itself

ka kau                                     1. to be on top of something; 2. to "rideʻ a vehicle

ke kau lio                                to ride (horse)

ke kau paikikala                     to ride (bicycle)

ka ʻauʻau kai                           to go swimming ( in the ocean )

ka ʻauʻau wai                         to go swimming ( in fresh water )

 

Na ʻAʻano ( in English and 日本語 )

ke kūnihi                                 steep and knife-like as a cliff

ka laulā                                    to be broad, or wide

ka lohiʻau                                 a fancy word for retarded

ka nalo                                    to disappear

ka nalowale                             1. to be lost, as a person;

                                                2. to be lost by someone as a possession

ka paʻa                                     to be stuck and immovable;

                                                 2. to be learned, mastered, as a lesson or song

ka pau ahi                                to be burned down as a house;

                                                 2.a fire in which a house or other structure is damaged

ka piʻikū                                   steep as a road, or similar incline which one ascends

ka ʻaleʻale                                 1. to be rippling as water;

                                                 2. to be full to just before the point of overflowing

ka ʻeneʻne                                hot and glowing as rocks in an imu, or hot lava

ka ʻeʻepa                                  for a human being dwarflike as a menehune,

                                                  a weird way of talking, etc.

ka ʻīhepe                                  normal word for retarded ( also used in ʻŌlelo Paʻiʻai )
